My Heroic Husband and I host our Wednesday evening worship service in our living room. A few weeks ago, we sang The Old Rugged Cross (by George Bennard). It almost brought tears to my eyes as our little congregation sung those sweet words with all their hearts. We were singing a cappella, and I admit, we were really off key - but oh... it was still such sweet praise and worship.
I am choosing to put aside all of this "stuff" and instead focus on one thing - the Gospel of Jesus Christ - my Lord and Savior - my Master - the One who bled and died for my sins (and yours too)! With all of my heart, I trust that He is qualified to take away my sins and that He did on that "Old Rugged Cross." Do you trust Him? Trust today!
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,I have found it interesting that this week there is very little talk about Easter. Lots of chat about the Supreme Court. Lots of discussion on how to not offend people. Lots of dialogue on why yes and why no. But, how many people are talking about Jesus Christ? How many people are chatting about the sacrifice that He made for all? How many people are discussing His triumph over sin and death? How many people are dialoguing about His resurrection? How many people are thinking about His Second Coming?
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.
